The last survivor of the Titanic has died
The last living survivor of the Titanic, Millvina Dean, has died at the age of 97 in Southampton after catching pneumonia. As a two-weeks-old baby, Dean was the youngest passenger on board the giant liner when it sank on its maiden voyage with the loss of more than 1,500 lives. Further informations, here.
With her, the last witness of a piece of our histoy and our cultural imaginary disappears.
Cinema industries in Italy
The latest yearly report about Italian market and cinema industries assets, promoted and published by Ente dello Spettacolo, will be presented at LUISS University on June 11th 2009.

PhD Studentship @ Aberdeen
The University of Aberdeen’s Film and Visual Culture Department is pleased to offer FOUR PhD studentships (three years, home fees only) and TWO taught M Litt in Visual Culture studentships (one year, home fees only) for students applying to commence their studies in 2009/10. Doctoral students have an opportunity to undertake a traditional thesis or one involving film practice-as-research, with a shorter written element. Supervision can either be pursued wholly within Film and Visual Culture, or depending on your topic, co-supervision arrangements are available with the following departments:

Scottish and Irish Studies

“Basette” @ “Arcipelago”
The short film “Basette”, produced by Emiliana De Blasio (coordinator of Crisc-Cmcs) will be presented in Rome (Italy) at the 16th edition of the International Festival of Short Films and New Images. “Basette” will be on screen on June 13th, 8.30 p.m., cinema Intrastevere, Rome.

Exhibition, Conference & Screenings

FILMOBILE is a network project developed at the University of Westminster bringing together the mobile phone industry, filmmakers and artists working with mobile devices. In April and May 2008 FILMOBILE is organising a major international event consisting of a gallery exhibition, cinema screenings and an international conference. This event will explore the cultural and economic impact brought about by new mobile technologies and initiate debates between artists, the media and the new mobile industry.
The FILMOBILE EXHIBITION at London Gallery West will feature mobile art works by Mark Amerika, Camille Baker, Bebe Beard, Melissa Bliss, Elly Clarke, Romain Forquy, Steve Hawley, Brian House, Brooke A. Knight, Simon Longo, Anne Massoni, Kasia Molga, Sylvie Prasad, Michele Pred, Henry Reichhold, Max Schleser and Jo Thomas.
The FILMOBILE CONFERENCE at The Old Lumiere Cinema includes more than 22 speakers from the USA, South Africa, Australia, Germany, Italy and the UK addressing the global impact of mobile technologies in the domain of art, media and communication. A live web broadcast with the Mobilefest in Brazil is scheduled to take place during the conference. For detailed conference program see here
